JUMPING!

Most dogs aren't trying to be "bad"; they are simply following their instincts or seeking a reaction.

The Quest for Attention: This is the #1 culprit. To a dog, even a "scolding" is a form of attention. When they jump and you push them off or talk to them, they've successfully engaged you. In their mind, the mission is accomplished!
High-Voltage Excitement: For many dogs, seeing a favorite human triggers a massive spike in energy. Jumping is a physical release for that "happy-to-see-you" adrenaline.
The Natural Greeting: In the canine world, greeting face-to-face is standard. Since our faces are much higher than theirs, they take flight to close the gap and say hello at eye level.
Dominance or Boundary Testing: In some cases, particularly with confident or larger breeds, jumping can be a way of "claiming" space or asserting themselves. It's less about a hug and more about a power move.
Nervous Energy (Anxiety): For an insecure dog, jumping can be a frantic way to seek reassurance. It's a "Please don't leave me" or "I'm overwhelmed" response that manifests as physical clinginess.

While a puppy jumping is cute, an adult dog doing the same can be problematic:

Safety Risks: A jumping dog can easily knock over a child or a senior.
Property Damage: Muddy paws don't mix well with white sofas or expensive work clothes.
Social Stress: It can make guests hesitant to visit your home.
